Decided to pass on Canada this year and stay closer to home. Wanted to camp so I chose Big lake. I've scoured over maps and have a general idea of where I want to start fishing, but know very little about the lake. Sounds like lots of people fish the north side of the big island, but don't see much beyond that. I will try that as well as some of the other humps in the lake and the deep hole.

Any suggestions for catching some walleyes in this lake in September? I have a feeling I will find them, but know it will take some searching and experimenting with colors and lures.

I haven’t fished Big in quite some time, but here are a few spots I remember doing well. We mostly trolled Rapalas over these areas and occasionally used leaches.

Thanks for responding. Just got back lastnight and it was an excellent trip. I caught some walleyes trolling and some jigging with minnows. I thought we would catch more trolling than we did so I'm not certain what the deal was there but certainly is alot of structure in this lake. Biggest walleye I caught was 20 inches and I caught it on the south shore of picnic island. Most of the wind was pushing heavy out of the south so I really didn't fish the north end of that island. Probably should have put in more time there but got blown off the lake by the storms that rolled in Monday night. Most of the walleyes we caught were off the tips of the wind blown islands and points with minnows. Again nothing huge but was an awesome time.
