I stayed at that site for my 1st time the Thursday after you left. Very well wind protected. I have been to Brule over twenty times ,such an easy trip. The best walleye spot in that area is the flat off the west end of Brule Island in the evening. You probably paddled right over it. I tell you this because you left the camp spotless and left firewood which was much appreciated. Thankyou.

The Vernon lake portage is a little steep but that 1st campsite is worth it.

Hey, fishslayer--I just found your comment and you are welcome. We always try our best to abide by the "Leave No Trace" mind-set and it's good to know that you deemed our efforts successful. I often struggle with the leaving of firewood as that can technically be considered a "trace". If we happen to have extra when we are done, we try to leave firewood neatly piled by the fire grate but I have to admit that we don't purposefully make sure each time to leave wood for the next party. If you appreciated that little pile of wood and it improved your experience at the site, that's all the better!
