I guess there is a update regulation page down the forum a ways.

Not sure what we are supposed to be gleaning from the reading.

Is this a current?

I skimmed through it and maybe missed something so correct any mistakes please.

There was no provision for leashing your dog. Just said your dog needs to be under control at all times. Which still means if your dog is jumping on me on a portage while you aren’t in sight…you violated the rules :)

There was no mention of IGBC containers, just bear resistant…

Just to add further controversy to my post LOL I like how they call out the 9 person/4 canoe rules. There is a whole section that explains to church, youth and other non profits just because the 25 or so of you have separate permits if you meet up or travel together you are in violation of the rules. This was the reason the 9 person/4 canoe limit was instituted. When our Scout Troop went last year, unfortunately we saw several groups violating this rule. I love youth are getting introduced, but part of introducing youth is instilling respect for the resource and the regulations. As a scout I did not learn “follow the rules that are easy or the rules I like”

The other part is if you run into a group on a portage or happen to hit A bottle neck you are not in violation of the rules. The rules clearly state you cannot exceed the 9 people 4 water craft “as a group”. When I pass you while you are doing your 9th trip across the portage you are definitely NOT part of my group :) So chill out and calm down Francis…

Well, different question. If you get the seasonal card, can you get permits at the ranger stations without a $6 permit reservation charge?

the need to pay the $6.00 reservation fee and user fee deposit. They may be purchased in person after May 1 from any Forest Service Permit Issuing Station." Suggests there are unreserved permits available.....

Correct, if you go in the day before or day of and pick up an open permit, they leave off the $6 reservation fee. You’re taking a chance, but it’s not uncommon to find unreserved permits.

I would guess there are permits available for some EPs every day. Probably would be surprised how often the most popular were available by end of day before.

I see the link says 24 and 25 overnight paddle are still by lottery. When did that stop? (I think they are no longer lottery??) I looked for a date on it but no luck.

Yea I know a few people that just play entry point lottery. Go up and see what permit is available and take it. Never been burned that I know of, but they also don’t go in early August.

The point of this all COULD be that the old planning guide is still an active link even though it is clearly out of date and there is a new document that supersedes it . USFS needs to clear old stuff out of their website. This is a typical problem with government sites. Federal is usually not so bad. County and municipal websites are the worst.

I also repeated a site USFS just posted on one web site just recently. Even Tho maybe outdated in certain segments.
It also spurred discussion on caring for the BWCA and we have some sharp eyes,
who corrected where it was needed.

I don't know much about how this works but assume they changed the link on their primary Web site but leave the document on their server so it can still be called up. One company whose products I used updated price list but never removed old ones and I'd often get an old one.
