Officials are responding to a capsize on Alton Lake Saturday October 5th. Details are still coming in. I hope everyone is safe and accounted for.

It sounds like two canoes from the same group capsized and then the groups got separated. Luckily all the paddlers made it to a shore and they were all eventually reunited. Winds were strong. I'm so glad everyone is okay.

It doesn't take a lot of wind to make Alton very rough. The landing in the channel gets very difficult in most any kind of a westerly wind.

Also, fortunate that water temps are likely much higher than they normally would be at this time of year.

That’s what I was thinking as well. My wife and I were on Sawbill 12ish years ago during the 1st weekend of October when a couple passed away of hypothermia after capsizing on Alton.

Glad everyone was ok this time.
