Met him briefly a few times, very friendly and helpful individual.

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him.

Having known Bruce, Sue, and Justine I would say they represented a breed that is becoming rarer. Resorts that have been in the same family for generations are an endangered group. But more than that are the values the Kerfoots held which began with giving every guest their best. Gunflint became a must-visit place because of its renowned customer service and the great experiences it delivered, whether just stopping in the lodge for a meal or staying for a week.

I had dinner at the Gunflint Lodge in September 2007 after a week in the BWCA with a group of friends from Wilderness Canoe Base at the end of the trail. Kerfoot joined us and entertained us with 2 hours of stories about life there and in BW. Very interesting guy.

We had a nice meal in the Lodge a few years back and Bruce stopped at our table to say hello and check in, mark of an excellently run operation. He will be missed, rare breed indeed.

This goes back about 25 years ago when my company was doing some major work for Gunflint Lodge and our staff person who was coordinating the project was suddenly hospitalized and no longer able to continue on the project. I needed to step in and the learning curve for me was pretty short and steep. I remember thinking how Bruce Kerfoot was being extemely patient with me and us as we became familiar with the details of what had transpired so far and what needed to be done for completion. We were able to complete the work for GF Lodge and do it on time thanks in large part to Bruce's cooperation and understanding.

I had certainly heard of Gunflint Lodge and of the Kerfoots but did not really know them at all. Bruce's demeanor through that situation impressed me and if he was that way with all of his guests as well, I can see why they had such a long-time succesful operation.

May he rest in peace.

We’ve been customers of GFL for a while now and though I never crossed paths with Bruce I have heard many stories. The Kerfoots are a special family that made a major impact all along the trail. Rest easy Bruce.
