Wow, a very sweet and kind remembrance of your dear friend. honestly, i'm glad you added your ages because it made the story all the more meaningful.

i'm only 62 and doubt i would have tackled that climb.

your feelings about the heron were exactly as i was thinking as you were telling of it's leading you home.

you are three of the best friends Don could have hoped for in life.

thanks for posting your trip and memories.

Ken, what a beautiful trip report and caring send-off to your long-time friend and paddling partner. I have two friends who introduced me to paddling Quetico back in the mid-80s and we have been on 30+ trips together over the years. Two of my truly best friends. I can see a similar report in our, hopefully distant, future.

Thanks for sharing.

Nice tribute to Don... he sounds like a great guy! This makes us all reflect on the end of tripping days and losing paddle mates.

Our group just lost one of our regulars a few weeks ago.

Thank you for sharing!

Mocha, Mashuga, Jackfish, and ghamer: Thank you all for your kind thoughts and words; they are much appreciated. I know you also have precious memories of experiences with dear friends in the BW. I sincerely hope you all will still be paddling for many years ahead.
