Fishing and trip info for early Sept 25. I have booked a trip for 2 for next Sept 2025. We have not decided on the entry point exactly yet but have a few I ideas. We don’t mind portages or rough terrain, my only concern is low water areas and mud boggs / grassy river beds. That being said I was looking at possibly starting at muddro or little gabbro. I don’t mind moving camps but prefer to find a base camp and spend the days roaming and fishing.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Couple questions;

1. What do you hope to fish for? Walleye, Bass, Trout?
2. Time wise - how far are you looking to travel on your entry day? Options exist anywhere between 2 to 12 hours.

Travel time doesn’t matter too much either, long as we get camp set up with some light left. We usually hit the water at just before dawn. Fishing wise, we are game for anything. That being said I could go spend the week and do nothing but sit in camp or float around and be perfectly happy too.

Just looking for options, last year did the K triangle but it was june and the skeeters were horrible lol

I can't offer much fishing advice, but please know that Mudro and Little Gabbro are probably the two most sought after permits in the entire BWCA. Be sure you on the reservation site at 8:59 AM, January 29, and hit refresh constantly until you are logged on. Obviously, have an account set up, and don't wait until the morning of January 29 to create an account. The Mudro and Little Gabbro permits are usually scooped up in the first hour or two when permits open up.

I would think about Moose Lake EP up to Knife Lake. You could check out Dorothy's Island - really cool Banded Iron Rock there. Climb Thunder Point. Check out Eddy Falls. Fishing is pretty good in Knife too.

Another option I like that time of year is head up Moose River North EP to Lac La Croix. Fantastic fishing. Climb Warrior Hill for amazing views of the area. Boulder Bay and Tiger Bay area have some of the nicest sites i've come across.

Moose River was my initial choice but I was worried about low water ? That may be the plan if that’s not an issue or anything that time of year.

That’s what I was worried about also was how many people. Last time when we hit the triangle the first 20 camps were taken. We had to settle for first available before dark.

My experience has been the two busiest area's of the BWCA are the far eastern section, east of the gunflint and the Kawishisi/Lake One Triangle Area.

Those are the only two area's we've run into crowding issues and it's happened multiple times.

I haven't run into low water levels on the moose river, but could see how it may be an issue in a drier summer/fall.

I would really look at Moose to Knife as an option. Western side of knife can be a little busy...but anything past dorothy's or especially past Thunder point and it really clears out. North Arm is a little more solitude and better fishing for Lake Trout than the south.
