30 some years ago I tried to access it via the creek between Cross Bay and Dawkins. I don't remember much about it except I didn't make it. An old timer had told me there are walleyes in there. Supposedly there was(is) a trail from the Gunflint. I used to enjoy exploring some of those hard to reach spots. Every once in a while you find a spot worth going back to for one reason or another. Often they were once in a lifetime hikes.
Interesting find - DNR says in 1979 there was a foot trail from the gunflint to rib lake that had access to this lake. Google earth shows a trail to extortion creek, then what would be a bushwhack the rest of the way. Looks like possibly Banadad ski trail would be the best bet - follow it to the creek then into Dawkins.
On google earth and other satalite imagery - It kind of looks like there's a user maintained campsite on the east side of the island.
