Very nice report. Thanks for sharing.
Your amount of travel those days is quite impressive, especially with how hot it was those days. Little duckling and I entered the same day as you and basecamped on Wood. If I remember correctly, temperatures hit the 90’s? The heat was horrible and we were just spending our time fishing, swimming, and hanging out in camp. I can’t imagine traveling that much in that heat. Well done!

Well-written report; thanks for bringing us along!
Sounds like you had some challenges - all of which you handled like a pro.
That's a lot of miles and a lot of portages in that amount of time.
Bravo!

Your report brings back some fond memories as over the course of several trips I have travelled your route from Bald Eagle to South Kawishiwi, to Lake One, to Insula, Alice, Malberg and Kawishiwi. Some of that I will do again, some of it I will not as age is catching up with me.

It was crazy hot but that also ended up being important training because the Border Route Challenge later that summer was in the high 80's to 90's for the first 4 days. A number of people had to drop out because they overheated and were having trouble managing hydration.

bnics: "Great report, well written.
Loved seeing you reference Skep's Trail Mix. Gear Skeptic has been a fantastic resource, especially with meal planning my backpacking trips. "
I fell in love with the Gear Skeptic food and hydration videos when I started researching ultra-distance canoe racing. He is such a total nerd and I love it! His recommendations for recovery drinks have saved me on many a long, hot, physical day and his trail mix is the best ever!

Ahahn366: "Thanks for the report, much useful information for planning something similar for me. And I got a kick out of the photo of the house setup, we are rocking the the same sleep system down to the nemo pillow. "You must have good taste...lol. Happy trails!

I really enjoyed reading your report and rethinking my own travels along that route. You certainly covered ground and water considerably faster than I did!
I also had real trouble navigation the Perent River around that 8th portage. My map showed it on the north side, but I could not find anything there at all. Backtracking on the south side, I found a small landing with a Boulder which had had a fire built next to it - like one of your photos from another site. I could see two tents had bushwhacked there maybe a week of so before. There was a faint path there leading to another body of water. I had to use my Inreach to make sure I was ending up on the correct lake. It was just barely a moose path, and not so much a portage.
I look forward to following your Louse River trip some day.

Awesome! I love that you have every step down on your portaging technique, not to mention the rest of your tripping style, single portaging and all. You got this canoe tripping figured out, I’ll never get to your level that’s for sure. Impressive!
