Making the drive from the Southeast in late summer and plan on a two nights camping not too far from the Interstate-75, 65, 90, 94, Rt 53 corridor before shooting up the North Shore road. Looking for any recommendations of state parks that others have used in breaking up similar travels. Telling myself that twenty hours of driving will be more than offset by the tranquility of the BWCA.

Where on 75 are you thinking?

This may be too far for your first day of travel, but Rock Cut State Park just north of Rockford IL is less than a mile from I-90.

About the same driving time if you use 39 to 90 to avoid the Chicago area are Matthiessen State Park and Starved Rock Park near LaSalle/ Peru IL.

Like the idea of skirting Chicago but that may be a bit too ambitious for first nights stop. Hope to make Wisc Dells on second night, so either Springfield or Indy may be first night stop. More likely, my son will talk me into flying and none of will matter but I do appreciate the response.
