Hey all looking for some help.
I read a number of positive reviews of the NEMO bugout in the boards over the years - for example https://bwca.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=forum.thread&threadId=1133531&forumID=15&confID=1
My wife gets DESTROYED by mosquitos like I've never seen anyone in all my decades in the BWCA so I was thinking this is the year to spring for this item.
Unfortunately it seems to have been discontinued?

Any alternatives folks can recommend? Basically something 9x9 mesh or so, but not super heavy in a car camping way.

Thanks!

Eureka makes one that was on clearance...

I hear you. I have a nemo bugout screenhouse. I also have a Nemo victory screenhouse which is very nice and free standing. These are still available for a price, like $500 from Piragis. The only problem is that they are heavy, like 20 lbs. I have not brought mine on a canoe trip except once to the sylvania wilderness in Mich with grandsons due to short portages. It saved the day. Worst skeeters i have ever experienced. If you are willing to haul it in well worth it. 10x10 in size and very https://www.boundarywaterscatalog.com/all-products/browse/keyword/nemo-victory-screenhouse. Also works well as a rain tent.

Where are you located? I have the 9x9 and we used it 1x. Nothing wrong with it, just not for us.

Was planning on selling it this year. I'm in Central WI.

I noticed the Eureka ones on clearance at Fleet-Farm in Wausau WI about a month ago. I dont remember the price exactly but I recall that it seemed quite reasonable.

Then there are Cooke Custom Sewing's silicone tarp tents. The 10x10,1.9 oz version is less than 7 pounds at $495.

Thanks all -- super helpful!
I was looking at that cheapo one on Amazon referenced in the other thread.... but man, 1.9 oz vs 2.3 lbs! I know the CCS is pricey but I usually take a group of 7-9 people including 4 kids and a wife who gets absolutely mauled by mosquitos. So if this thing works, it's worth it? I guess?

I appreciate the help.

I bought the CCS a year ago. It costs more than some of the alternatives, but like all CCS products I've bought, I think it's well worth it. Plus, it's locally made and supports a small business.

I have the CCS tarp with screen. It’s expensive but worth it in my opinion. It’s saved us on a couple trips. It’s largely enough to cook and eat under. The bottom 12” of the screen is just nylon fabric that you can put rocks on to hold it down. There’s a zipper on each corner so getting in is easy. I know there are cheaper alternatives but they don’t seem to be of the same quality.

I have the Nemo bug out, bought used from Piraeus. I think it is the 12x12. It is really nice but as others have said it is really heavy, also still quite bulky after being packed up. Similar to a large 5 person tent. I have decided not to take it back to BWCA for those reasons. I bought a cheaper, lighter version from One Wind. I’m not sure if this is a quality product yet or not, but it’s lighter and packs up nicely to a small size.

I’d be willing to make someone a heck of a deal on the Nemo! Or I may use it on car camping trips in the future.

Hey Oteymc - Im not seeing a way to send a message in this forum, but I'd be interested in the Nemo if you're selling. Let me know.

Feel free to email me at oteymc@gmail.com. Like I said I bought it used from Piragus, so it was in great shape. Took it on that one trip, been in storage since.

I have this one. I like it. It is light and works. A little short though.

Ok so maybe I missed something but.... I ordered the "1.9oz Silicone Tarp Tent" from CCS. I expected it would weigh... I dunno, 1.9oz?

It just arrived, and it's a beast! Weighs in at 6lb 14oz. Yikes! Returning.

Was that your experience as well? Am I missing something obvious about it on the website where it says it weighs many pounds instead of under 2oz? I'm just really confused and slightly miffed TBH.

You missed it. But I would think most people would realize 1.9 oz would be impossible for something of that size.

1.9oz refers to the weight of the primary material per square yard.

Just get the CCS 1.1 Silicone Tarp Tent. It’s the best decision you can make. There is nothing else that compares to it. Buy once, cry once. But you’ll have it for life.

You should be banned from buying anything online.

I bought this one last year. It's big enough for a few dudes with a packable table and Helinox chairs.

Hope that helps!

I just listed an UNUSED 9x9 Nemo Bugout in For Sale and Wanted.

I bought the one off Amazon last year....didn't use it last summer but taking it this June. Just did a trial run set up in yard. Holds six chairs ok and table. Zippered entries on ends. 6 stakes for bottom. Fabric bottom edge and sod flap. I got the version without tarp top so I just hung it under my tarp. Packed down in bag is little bigger than a football. ...net, stakes and some cordage weighs 3 pounds.

A quick Google search came up with the Redcamp , Vincreem , Preself and several others.

Example of my Vincreem screen shelter without stakes:

Just FYI - there's a company that's picking up the Eureka bug shelter design.

https://treqawear.com/shop/new-bug-shelter/

I have not purchased this product, so I can't speak to the quality. I'm not sure it's identical, but it looks close.
