Finding out a few things online as I stroll among the wants & needs catagory. I prefer not to be eaten alive on hikes, camping trips, working outside in my own yard.

Trail pants. Camp pants. Ex-officio Insect shield pants. That’s what I need to buy since chiggers & ticks are thriving in my area. I’ve treated my own clothes & tents & tarps for years with Sawyers. Today I desire a single pair of new pants that are pre treated.

EMS was my go to for fit, they are essentially no more. REI pants next best option for me along with Ex-officio. Ex-Officio is now only underwear & shirts, they are now a part of Marmot & Coleman.

Insect Shield is now a separate company that sells its own products & will also take your clothes & treat them & send them back to you good for 70 washings. Interesting. It’s all news to me. Anyone try this?

Prefer nothing from a pesticide company anywhere near me nor any watershed on Earth.

Excellent advice. I tried that exact method last year. Walked into 2 chigger nests & a tick nest on separate occasions. My doctor recommended I not do that anymore without protection.

Years ago I sent things to Insect Shield for treatment - pants, shirts, socks - and have also bought already treated clothing.

Do they use permethrin or something similar?

Good post. I was also looking at insect repellent pants this year and the offerings are limited. I order a bug shield pant from LL bean but it is not yet tested. I used to use ex officio

I didn’t realize LL bean made bug shield pants, I’m going to check them out. Thanks! All of my pre-treated stuff is so old along with the clothes I’ve treated myself, there is no insect repellent life left in them.

I have personally found these to be the best pants for tripping, and they are offered with or without insect shield. I opt for the insect protection: Railriders Bushwacker pants

Thanks these look really great for men. They have short, normal & tall for men’s pants sizes. The women’s are very different, the length goes up with the size, the drawstring bottom is really nice, I’d have to have them altered since my machine sewing skills would risk ruining that aspect. My tripmate would like the men’s tall version. I appreciate all of the suggestions here, thanks everyone.
