beautiful photo.
maybe the fish weren't biting because the season isn't open yet?

early spring trips are the best as long as your mind is ready for anything mother nature deals.

Yep! The panfish have no excuses :) Just to be clear, we were aware that walleye/pike/bass etc are out of season.

Ya - except according the DNR website and all the nettings, Polly doesn't have either of those species. Should a CO have happened by - you'd have likely been ticketed or at least got a talking to.

That would explain why we didn't catch any crappies... Ha. The thought that there would be NO crappies in any of those lakes didn't really enter our heads, let alone no bluegill. It looks like other panfish are present in the lakes though, like pumpkinseeds, rock bass, and green sunfish. I don't think we would have kept any of those, though, but it would have been fun to catch them.

I asked my friend where he got the idea and wouldn't you know it, he was misled by Google's wonderful AI overview, which states emphatically that "Kawishiwi Lake offers good crappie fishing". (So glad we're investing all those billions into those systems.) Serves us right for not digging deeper, I guess.
