We are entering at Fall Lake and will make the two short portages to Pipestone Bay on the far west end of Basswood Lake. There are many campsites and this is our first trip to this area. Group size is 5 - three small tents. We generally prefer to face west for sunsets. any recommendation? Thanks!

Pipestone Bay Trip
This link is to the trip report from when we went to the same area in 2023. Your gonna have fun!

While the sites we stayed at didn't really face west, we particularly enjoyed site 1562 at the north end of Pipestone Bay. It was huge and beautiful.

We also stayed at site 1614 near Pipestone Falls which worked well for us too. There are photos from each site in the trip report.

While we didn't stay there other than for a break from paddling, we also liked sites 1588 and 1608.

Again, these do not face west for a sunset view but on the otherhand our sunrises were quite pretty!

Although not a good sunset-viewing site, I really enjoyed site #1587 for its elevated, expansive view and spaciousness. Site #1611 (an island site) is also very nice. The campsite dots on many maps show the site on the east side of the island, but it actually does face west and had great sunset viewing.

I was also going to recommend the island site.

#1599 is a great site on a small island tucked into a little bay.

#1587 is an elevated site with a terrific view of the lake.

#1601 was decent but not our favorite, especially compared to 1599.

Have a great trip!

For campsite reviews, you can go to the Maps & Entry Points tab at the top of the page. (The link will take you directly to Pipestone Bay.)

Simply click on the red dots to get a pop-up, then click on the link within the pop-up to get information about each campsite. Some campsites have a lot of reviews, and some have none. The reviews are from folks who have camped or visited the sites in the past and have chosen to offer a review.

Stayed at 1566 last year great open site. Lots of hammock trees. Plenty of room for tents but it doesn't face west. More southeast.
