Heading to Perent Lake 9/3/25 and was wondering on the status of beaver dams on Hog Creek, along with walleyes on Perent Lake.

Have not been there this year but I often go in September. With higher water this year you should have little problem. In the past the dams could be pull over all of them without unloading the canoe. Usually on this route higher water is your friend. In low water you maybe have do some walking. Be prepared for a very winding paddle, not a problem to find the way but there is almost never a straight section until near the lake. Walleye fishing can be very good, especially in the morning or evenings. The fish are pretty dispersed around the lake. I usually troll until I find them. There are not big, but lots of eaters. Many people camp in one area on paddlers right where there is island protection, good if its windy and nice sites, but can be crowded. I prefer to paddle and camp away from that area where there are more secluded sites.

No beaver dam issues with high water but it definitely makes steering a challenge on all those tight corners. You may end up bouncing from bank to bank around the corners quite a bit.

Generally an easy trip with good walleye fishing and quite a few nice campsites.

My wife is a very strong paddler and we made a game out of it. Tried to take those long loops at full speed and see if we could make it around the bend. Lots of vegetation along the shore softened our failed attempt usually resulting in laughter. If you don't know how turn a canoe when you start this trip you will be an expert when you finish.
