I know a portion of the Hwy between Two Harbors and Ely was closed with an expected reopen date of mid to late August. MN DOT maps no longer show this, but google maps does. Can anyone confirm if the Hwy is indeed open?

Disregard- I found the update from a couple weeks ago that mentions reopening Aug 21 but with work still continuing through October, so still delays/one lane sections. I’ll have to decide which of the lesser of 2 evils I’ll tackle on my way up next week.

I was through there this morning and it wasn’t bad. They are grinding the old asphalt. At the rate they were going it shouldn’t take long before they are paving. The very light traffic helps.

There is quite a bit of traffic for it to be closed, especially for a Monday.

Coming from WI to Ely, which we split 50/50 which way we normally go, but definitely trying to avoid the route around Virginia with all the closures there.

Oh yea, that detour around Eveleth sucks too. I guess you pick your poison.

The hwy 2 full closure is done, drove it on Sunday (8/24) all the culvert replacement has been done and the packed gravel is no worse than the road was on Sunday.

There will be lane closures as they work to grind and relay new asphalt for that section, so I would expect delays during normal construction hours, until that is completed.
