Has anyone been on the Beartrap River recently between Beartrap Lake and Iron Lake? I’m wondering if it’s passable? I’ll be putting in on South Hegman next week (Sep 8) and I’d like to follow the Beartrap to Iron Lake and then out along the Stuart River.
Thank you!

My son was just there. I'll have him comment. It was passable. He was headed south through Sunday Bay, across the portage/non-portage that leads to the river. He said it was only a moose path to Sunday Lake then Bear Trap Lake.

Looking again, I see that is not quite where you are going but still....it might help to hear from him.

Thank you! If your son has any comment about the water level in the Beartrap River that would be useful.

You do know that you can't camp in the PMA without a special permit, right?

The Beartrap is one of the more travelled PMA routes, I'd be surprised if you couldn't make it through. I was in that area 3 weeks ago and water levels were pretty good for late summer. We didn't take the river due to my son injuring his back, but the initial portage onto the Beartrap River was in good shape.
