I'm thinking it's time to replace the Sawyer Point One filter I use in a gravity system; after years of use it's getting more and more difficult to clean and keep running smoothly. I'm actually not disappointed in how long its lasted, and I could probably squeeze another season or two out of it, but I'm wondering if there are cheaper and better replacement options out there I might not know about. I'm sure folks have some good long-term reviews on various in-line filters; anything to share?

I moved away from Sawyer filters several years ago.. I found them incredibly unreliable and clogged super easily. Switched to Versa Flow and never had an issue again..

I have replaced my Sawyer water filters with Versa Flow water filters. They use the same hollow fiber technology, are competitively priced, filter to 1 micron, have threaded ends, have attached end tip covers and have a compatible activated carbon filter available.

Same here, I switched from platypus, to Sawyer, and now use versaflow. As long as they stay in the current price range I will continue to use them. Faster than the Sawyer mini I was using and I seem to have less problems with them, how that's possible as they all seem the same construction I don't know. But the bigger filter at a cheaper price is why I switched.

I've been pretty happy with the sawyer filters and have been using a squeeze inline the past few years (used minis before that but found they just clog too often in all but the clearest water).

Haven't tried the point one, but I think it really comes down to the size of the filter. Most all of the newer filters now are the same hollow fiber filter elements and most all of them can be backflushed so it's just a matter of which filters have more fibers and surface area to allow more flow through.

I tested a couple platypus quickdraws last year and I think they actually tried to cram too many fibers into a smaller package and they both actually had less flow out of the box than my well used sawyer squeeze.
