That pile of downed trees looks a little unnatural, so maybe we're not in the bwca... I'll try Tamarack then, on the portage from Mud to Tamarack?

Or maybe I'm misidentifying those two trees in the first picture, which I took as the two clues.

First clue was “somewhere there’s a way to the lake,” as in there is no maintained portage: a PMA lake. 2nd clue was from the picture. An area burned from a “recent” fire.
