Please allow this post to stand, if this forum cares at all about the future of the BWCA.
Don't shoot the Messager and bury your head into the sand, I KNOW YOU CARE.
Vote tally, all Democrats in Congress voted no, but one, all Republicans but one voted yes.

Nothing else please allow news releases and freeze comments if worried about disruptive comments.

I remember at my college commencement address-way way back in 1972 we had as speaker the highest military General whom served in the Military war in the field.

He said" never get all your info from one source-be it newspapers or otherwise, to not do so a person's research may be uneducated and bias".

So please don't shut down the flow of info at least.

I hope every single member of this website donates to anyone running against Stauber. This is such a tragedy.

"The House ultimately approved the resolution on a 214-208 vote. One Republican, Don Bacon of Nebraska, voted against it, and one Democrat, Jared Golden of Maine, voted for it."

Keep this in mind when deciding who to vote for in the midterm election this fall...

Note that nine representatives (five dem, four rep) did not register a vote. That group of nine could have swung it the other way.

Minnesota DNR might want to reconsider four walleye limit. Once the Chileans accidentally release toxic mine waste, all of the walleye are doomed. Might as well harvest as many as we can before it's too late.

Always been a controversial topic. A simple AI Overview is as follows: "Sulfide-ore copper mining poses severe dangers to the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, primarily through Acid Mine Drainage (AMD), which creates sulfuric acid from waste rock, leaching heavy metals and toxins into the interconnected lakes and streams, potentially causing permanent pollution, harming fish/wildlife, contaminating drinking water, and affecting human health. The fragile ecosystem is particularly vulnerable, with threats including toxic waste runoff, disruption of wildlife, and long-term contamination from proposed mines near the watershed, threatening the region's economy and natural values."

Hope it doesn't make it through the Senate . I'm not optimistic

The economic argument for copper-nickel mining near the BWCA has always seem shortsighted to me. Sure, mining would bring short-term economic benefits. Most of that economic benefit would go to Antofagasta (back to Chile), but there would be jobs for locals in the area for a time. When (not if, because there has never been a copper-nickel mine without a negative environmental impact) the mine pollutes the BWCA watershed, it will cause irreparable harm to the area. The region's long-term economic driver (tourism) will be greatly diminished.

So it's short term gains (mostly for Antofagasta) with losses after vs. the slow but steady long-term tourism economy.

I offered a full sited view, and it was deleted. There were several other posters deleted for trying to have an adult conversation.

I have yet to see an informed post on mining in Minnesota. While many have an idealistic view, it has nothing good sense and wisdom.

Check out this video. Mining the Truth: Cases for and against mining near the Boundary Waters

What are some better options? I am not for raping some 3rd world country for your metal. Child slave labor and no environmental laws, doesn't work for me.

While I have not commented on this topic, and probably won’t, I did also notice that pro-mining posts have been removed from this thread. I enjoy reading threads on this topic as I have yet to form an opinion on this bill.

I have not seen any posts that were later removed, but if that did happen, and for no other reason than they were pro-mining, that's unfortunate. I'm opposed to this mine, but I don't think we should silence the opinions of those people we disagree with. As long as they express said opinions in a respectful manner, of course.

Did “Stumpy” remove his own posts? Good chance.

Glad we have these mineral resources. They aren't going anywhere. As soon as we have the technology to extract them in a way that provides a NET ECONOMIC BENIFIT to US, we can get them out and make the stuff we so desperately need as humans, like weapons and data centers and ipads.

Why are we scrambling to extract them tomorrow so a foreign corporation can sell them to our rivals?

How do we reduce the exploitation and abuse of other countries and their kids? We have a long way to go. Our food, clothing, building materials and of course metals are all soaked in blood to some degree. The only thing we can do there is good old conservation. I have an old freezer full of venison, an old car, and an old computer. I stay in MN for the most part. To the job creation argument, again, there is a solid study showing a net loss here. I have had to move around to support myself. Our ancestors moved here for opportunities, and their decedents may need to do the same.

"I offered a full sited view....".

And what does fraud have to do with mining the BWCA?
