Just wondering about Slim Lake. Heading up to this EP in June and I am concerned I may hear noises from outside the BWCA, cabins, etc. Have others experienced this? It looks like there are some decent sites on Slim as well as nearby lakes.

Slim is a beautiful lake and entry point! The best site on the lake is the second one south of the portage to Rice lake with the island out front. I went to Hook Lake and stayed there.. I didn't hear any man made noises at all...

Slim is a beautiful lake. Not great for fishing, but still a great place
If you want to base camp for a few days. I’ve stayed on Hook and the only sounds I remember hearing were the sounds of wolves during the night. That being said, it’s possible, depending on the wind, to hear planes or boat traffic from Burntside. But that’s true for many lakes in the BWCA.

I've stayed there a couple times. A couple of the sites on the south end of the lake are near hiking trails and a couple that go up near baldy mountain. I remember a couple of years ago sitting in camp and having a group of about 12 people come walking right through my camp. They had gone off the hiking trail and we're just exploring woods. They were completely surprised when they came over the hill and found an old dude camping. At least I had clothes on.

I stayed on Slim for 3 nights a couple of years ago in early May, and heard no outside noise.

I spent Halloween weekend on Slim a few years ago and I didn’t hear any car or boat noise. I heard some chainsaw noise one afternoon and wolves howling at night.

I stayed at the site closest to the entry portage and took advantage of the access it had to the hiking trails.

June of 2021 I did my first solo entering Slim, paddling thru Rice, and stayed on Hook. I didn't hear any man made noises, or didn't even see another human for 2 days as I stayed on Hook. Only one site on hook and it is a great spot. I would recommend traveling to Hook and staying there. If that site is taken move on to Keneu and stay on that site. You will enjoy the solitude.

It's a bit dated but, here's a trip report coming out of Slim. Big Slim
