I scrounged up an August 4 permit for Entry Point #29. My plan is to enter through Ojibwe Lake and Triangle Lake and arrive at North Kawishiwi River at about 2:30 pm. There are 8 campsites on this section. How busy is it there on August 4? Is it like the hand-to-hand combat on Lake One. Or should the 4 of us be fine to find a campsite at 2:30 pm?

It can go either way. Realize you're also going to have traffic from Lake One, farm Lake, and South Kawishiwi.... Been there in July and August had my choice of campsites, and had trips there in June and September paddled the whole day to find something. Really kind of Hit or Miss. They are popular entry points, but there's not a lot of permits, except for Lake One. Fortunately most of those head to Lake One. Enjoy the roller portage! It's the highlight of the entry point.

Thanks! Hopefully it will not be too bad since it is a Tuesday.

It will all depend on how many of the permits for Entry 29 that have been bought are separate groups. OR -

1. Duplicate permits for a group or groups at several different entries/dates that may or may not be cancelled prior to your departure. And they decide not to use entry 29 on your date.
2. Duplicate permits for the same group at Entry #29 that have been purchased to try to guarantee solitude and campsite availability.

As noted before, it has become a crap shoot as to which you will encounter.

I’m taking my 7 year old son in S. Kawishiwi Memorial Day weekend and asking myself the same question. Hoping we can get lucky and snag a site without too much trouble. We will be there the whole week after so I don’t doubt it will thin out, but there are no permits anywhere near Kawishiwi river available around the weekend when we start the trip.

I agree that it’s a crap shoot. Sorry. I know that doesn’t really help. 2 years ago I took my then 5 year old son in at South Kawishiwi River the second week of August and was worried about campsites. I had read reports of people having trouble finding sites throughout the Triangle. When we got there, there were lots of cars in the lot. But to my pleasant surprise, 5 of the first 6 sites were open and we got the site I was hoping for.

He shouldertripper. My son had fun catching sunfish when we walked the portage over to Bruin Lake.
