This is always a good time with great people. It’s fun to catch up with old friends and meet new ones. Bruin his hoping for some other kids to make it this year. He’s heard stories from his older sisters of the fun they had playing, exploring, and building forts with the other kids when they were younger.

Hawbakers: "Hello! It has been too long since I've seen some of you. I'm putting this on my calendar! See you then!"
Please come. I will be there depending on when I get help clearing the dead Balsams, and now wind downed previously alive trees.

Steve… we shoulda had the camp out up at your place!!! I hope you can make the campout!!! I go from there to my sugar beet driving job… I sure miss Minnesota, but it sounded like a good year to not be there.
And… Karen? Wow!!!!!! Awesome! And Beth… pretty cool you can make it. Now I’m hoping Adam doesn’t back out! Haha!

nctry: "So… not being real active sitting on a cactus… is John Galt still active here? He was a fun guy to get to know at a Wing Night a few years back."
Hi Ben, I am not sure how active he is on the site, but I have been texting with him, and will check if he is coming down.

Thanks Adam…
I sure hope more new people can come… even for the day on that Saturday for the festivities! It’s a great place to put names to faces and find out why nctryben gets the ugliest canoer award year after year… it’s awesome too to see everyone in their element pitching tents instead of being intense… often times folks have brought their canoes and found places to paddle trying out each others rides, paddles and techniques. But truthfully… just hanging out and sharing stories and such, enjoying campfires, eating well… it’s very relaxing and a great time. Meeting Adam you’ll quickly see why he’s so popular. He acts like he owns the site or something… oh wait…
Clear the date(s) we’d love to have new blood… the mosquitoes always enjoy that… not usually a deal that late in the year…
See you all there…

Yes, I understand. We have also lost trees on our property due to the Spruce bud worm. It seems sometimes we are lumberjacks. Hahaha. We are heating with wood in the winter months but order precut birch from a local vendor.

We even have more in common now. My sister moved to the far north
eastern portion of Lakeville, and are now looking over my parents.
Are you still in Farmington?
I love Whitetail Woods in Empire Twp. I haven't seen a better rehab of prairie. Really nice park!

A wilderness trip presented itself for this weekend, so going to take it! Enjoy everyone!

Good for you...bummer for us. I have a permit for Lake Kawishiwi for the 27th, but plan on attending the potluck to get me even more pumped up for my 3rd annual fall solo trip.
Have a great time!

Quick question - curious if anyone who bought any of the granite gear packs from boji last year would be interested in selling? I just didn't have the cash on me last year otherwise I would have taken part in the feeding frenzy.

I have a trip in through North Fowl starting on Saturday so, I won't make this get together. If the current fall colors around Babbitt & Ely are any indication, I should hit very near peak colors up there - looking forward to trip but, will miss seeing/visiting with all the wonderful folks who attend.

I will be giving away some BWCA swag for sure (something for everyone) and probably bring out some other stuff I have to give away.
Sorry Cricket no packs, but if you need to borrow something just let me know.

I'll miss you T.B. have a good trip.
"
I agree on both points. It’s always good chatting with TB.
I will most likely be there, and with one of the ducklings (19 year old). Bruin (7) wants to stay home with big duckling (21) because there weren’t other kids to play with the last 2 years.
If anyone is bringing kids let me know so I can let the smallest duckling know.

I start a Kawishiwi Lake solo the next day, going to drive up early early Sunday, but will be there for the potluck Saturday to get me fired up.
Adam, I may be interested in borrowing a granite gear pack for this trip. I think it would have more capacity than my REI backpack I have been using and I'm trying to single portage for at least the back half of my trip. I'd appreciate it if you brought it along so I could at least try it out. I may also take a look at what sawbill has for packs and rent one of theirs...trying to make a point of giving them some business even if I don't really need to.
T.B., bummed you won't be there but have a great trip! I think you may be right and we'll both get to experience some great fall colors!
UPboy - I may be interested in some raingear at that's my size. Specifically I don't have a good pair of rainpants and it looks like rain for the first few days of my trip. Thanks!

Looking forward to seeing/meeting everyone! Looks like a great night for a fire. Tomorrow it looks like we may get some rain in the afternoon, but it sounds like the system may fizzle out like it did yesterday.

My plan is to get moving fairly early tomorrow ( Saturday) if anyone needs anything..forgot anything
.let me know. I will do my best to check e-mail before I leave. ..see you by 10 ??

Thanks to everyone for coming and thank you Adam for another great Wingnite! It was a pleasure to see everyone and hang out around the fire and chat! I had a great time!
I was the last to leave and had to pack up my tent a little wet, so now it's on the clothesline drying.
FYI, Adam. As I was leaving, the family who had parked near the barn did return from their walk. The kids were excited to show me their collection of acorns. A nice family from Corcoran. I waited for them to finish and was able to lock up the gate as I left.

I got home Sat evening after driving in the rain 1/2 the way. IT was 60 degrees and nice in Duluth with nary a look of rain. I'm used to it being the other way.
Great to see everyone, and thanks Adam.

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

Always a pleasure gathering with some of the finest people! The stories, knowledge, humor, and food made for a great weekend!
We hope many members new or old make it next year!
And keep an eye our for mini-wingnight's in the metro or start one in your area. Drop me a line and I will happily send along for some swag.

Looks like a bunch of gezzers there! Pete mesaged me to say hi so I figured I'd post an update. Cathy and I spend a lot of time traveling around mostly western mountain states.
Beartooth Pass around 10000 feet. Yes snow in August!
Spent this past weekend at Road America driving the Sunset Cruise
Sunset Cruise at RA
Grandkids now 20 and 15 years old both tall! We keep busy! Best to all my old paddling friends!

It's great to hear from you butthead and Zulu.
Hey Tony, I looked it up and that Duluth cider maker was only new to me. It is Wild State, and they are indeed in the Lincoln Park area.
"
I have been to that cider company quite often and that and Duluth cider are both good.
