Honesty compels me to disclose that I stripped off a fleece layer, a polypro layer and a WOOLEN layer today while turkey hunting near Brimson. Oh, and I should have brought twice as much water in my pack as I started out with. ;-)

Nice report Paul, The Big Boy silky is a good friend of mine, we used them on the BWCA Ranger crew, thanks for clearing the portage. I haven't been to Bog Lake in 20ish years, never camped there just walked the portage and took a look.

During the Pagami Fire, I was Task Force Leader, my division was between Bog Lake and Comfort Lake. We punched a Dozer line south east from Bog Lake to the Tomahawk road, then across it following the fire line all the way to Comfort Lake. I think I had at least 11 miles of fire hose over that division, I was responsible for 120 people. I did have a trainee to split the load. One guy broke his leg by Comfort Lake in a Dozer accident.

The USFS took a stashed canoe off of Bog in 2023, guess the person didn't want to portage it back and forth, they said it wasn't too bad.

Running low on water was one of the factors for me curtailing my time out and about as well. Enjoy the warm weather while we can. Sounds like it's gonna cool off again this week. Hope you had ( or, at least will have) good luck hunting tom turkey.

I have often looked at Bog lake on a map and wondered if it lived up to its name!

Even your day trip reports are top notch. Thanks for sharing. One of the reasons I’d love to move up there would be the ability to do day trips whenever I want.

Considering it already has a couple of big detractors (dead end lake, extensive fire damage...), I agree Bog is a most unfortunate name. Maybe having named it Lake of the Clouds would make it more appealing??? But, any cedar rimmed lake (like Bog is) is a special spot in my estimation.

The daytrip option is a nice fringe benefit of living in the north country. But, when I lived down near your " neck of the woods" I took advantage of many of the awesome river paddles (Kettle, Rum, Snake, St Croix, Sauk, Crow and of course the Mississippi. ) that area afforded.

Glad to see all the shoreline didn't burn

I did a weekend trip to Bog Lake many years ago for a last minute trip. It was one of only a few permits available in the BWCA for that weekend so I figured it was as good as any. This was before the big fire.

Great to see the lake bouncing back after the fire. Haven't been there in about 15 years. There was a grove of old growth sentinel white pines when I was there. I agree that the name is unfortunate. It was really not boggy at all and we had a great time for a long weekend in the fall.
