Hey everyone,
Heading to the Malberg and Kawishiwi River area with a group. They’re planning to hunker down and fish Malberg and River Lake hard, but I’m pushing for day trips to see the sights.
My current list:
Fishdance pictographs
The current flowing into Alice
Amber Lake
The Beaver to Adams portage
Exploring Smite Lake
Maybe poking into the nearby PMAs
I have already visited Makwa from the north.
What are your must-see's or must-fish's in this area ?!
Thanks for everything!

Definitely push all the way south on Fishdance for fishing... I've read a few accounts of big pike down there. Looks like a cool area. I remember the area between Alice and Fishdance being really cool.
Smite Lake for sure, and if you have time, check out the north arm of Adams via Smite as well. Though if you're doing the Beaver-Adams portage, if you bring a canoe, definitely fish the southeast corner which has a lot of islands and points- excellent structure and protection from wind.
I will say that I haven't really considered that area as having a lot of distinct attractions, but as a whole it feels pretty remote and that is a nice feeling in and of itself, once you get out of Malberg that is.
The nice thing is, regardless of your day trip destinations, there's opportunity to fish the whole way, and you're unlikely to see a ton of people either. I think you'll like it very much.
Enjoy, Chris!!

If you get the site on Malberg closest to the portage to River then you might be able to play a round of Gilligan golf. We found a whole set of clubs, balls, tees scattered around camp last August and they might still be there. I think the clubs were a 7 (wood) iron, 9 (wood) iron, a pitching wedge, and one or two putters.

I’d portage over to nearby Fisher Lake and take a swing at Native Largemouth Bass. Last time I was there the lake was full of them. Small Mouth Bass hasn't destroyed it yet…

Most of your stuff is south and west. Don't forget about east. Go out the Louse River to Frond and Boze Lakes. Lovely paddle through a very old wilderness area. Frond and Boze are beautiful small lakes. It is not terribly far and makes for a relaxing day.
