Looking at a 4th of July weekend visit to SNF. Wondering if anyone has canoe camped and fished on Windy or T Lake? Any info on whether the sites are decent? I'm definitely intrigued by T since it seems to have some solitude and low likelihood of any motors.
Walleye fishing looks to be good to very good on both. If I arrive Thursday 7/2 at around 10 in the morning are sites already going to be snapped up?
I have typically noticed fewer people in the BWCA over the 4th of July weekend but not sure if SNF lakes fill up since no permit is required and people can make a last minute call based on weather.

I've boat camped on Windy, don't fish. I wasn't all that impressed, but I am picky. I can't remember that much about T, but my buddies have camped there and loved it. Never saw anyone. Said it looked like the BW.
I vote for T. If it is taken try Windy or Hogback area lakes.

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

jamotrade: "Thanks, Lindentree! This confirms my initial plan. I'll have to look into Hogback. Never heard of it."It is not far from T Lake but on the Wanless Road, FR 172.
Hog back Lake has 3 free campsites on it and if you paddle through a small channel you come to a lake with canoe in campsites. It is a jewel, you should try a quick paddle there if you have time. If you go to T Lake go through Finland other than Tofte. At Finland take Cty 7.
"Access to the 5 backcountry sites in the Hogback Lake area varies. One is directly on Hogback Lake and is accessible by boat from the boat launch, and two more are accessible by canoe from Hogback Lake by portaging to adjacent lakes. The remaining two are only accessible by foot via a hiking trail. The hiking trail can also be used to access all the sites. Please do not use or create additional non-designated campsites."
