Planning for trip starting Sunday. Entry point 62. Ely weather says HOT till Wednesday, Grand Marais cool. Which one do I go with? I tend to lean Ely because GM is on the lake.

If you use weather.com (and likely others) there are two options I prefer over Ely or Grand Marais when going up the Gunflint. One is Saganaga Lake trail, the other is Saganaga Lake Ontario.

You can get an interpolated point forecast for Clearwater here. (And for any other location, just click on the map as needed.)

I have a Madison, Wi TV station (channel 3000) app for weather and use West Cook County as my weather report on the Gunflint Trail locations. GM is always colder than the entry points.

I use the NOAA/NWS site (weather.gov) and pull up the forecast for Ely. Then scroll down to the map that shows Ely, and then you can adjust the location to any spot you want for the most precise forecast.

Ely would be better if you aren't selecting specific weather stations up on the trail. More so in May and Early June, but you can have a 30 degree difference in temps at times from up on the trail to GM.

I always look at Ely even when travelling on the Grand Marais side. GM is right on Lake Superior. Their weather can swing 20 degrees based on wind direction. Ely is much more stable and representative of the BW.
