My son and I were supposed to go in Sunday for 2 weeks, then thought we might go to a cabin up north instead. BUT...with all the smoke and stuff, we're going to pivot and drive to vermont and back instead with the 2 weeks off work that he's got.
Never been there....anyone have any intel on outdoors stuff we shouldn't miss?

If you like hiking, in Vermont the green mountains are pretty and if you’re willing to cross the border into New Hampshire, Mount Washington and Franconia Ridge are must.
Blessed are the flexible for they shall never be broken.

Love hiking, thanks!
We are also into caves, but not spelunking, and would probably do some kind of guided kayak day trip on a river. Arboretums, botanical gardens, cool weird museums.....

Northern Forest Canoe Trail
But if it were up to me, I’d drive right through Vermont past Franconia Ridge and spend as much time as possible on George and its environs:

There is that little water feature on the NY-Canada border called Niagara Falls. If you are feeling adventurous, I hear the rapids below the falls are Class 5 or higher.
Taughannock Falls State Park in Trumansburg, NY, is worth a visit and a hike around the gorge.
Then there is the drive through the Adirondack Mountains.
Since this year is the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, a visit to the Saratoga National Historical Park might be worthwhile (Revolutionary War battlefield).

I have paddled the Northern Forest Canoe Trail many times. Goes from western Ny state to upper main. 16 thirty to 40 mile segments with paddling and portages.
You will get to experience the Adirondacks. You can stay in the platform lean tos that are along the route.
Second only to the BWCA, our guys would say the NFCT is the second most beautiful paddling you can find.
