My son and I have permits for EP 41 (?)
In mid September. I feel Brule is far
enough from the fires it should be open by then.

EP 41 is opening on July 30. Barring something truly catastrophic happening you should be completely fine for that trip.

I have relatives flying in from the west coast for their first ever BWCA trip in Sept. We will be heading into Brule about the 24th of Sept.

This will be something new for them for sure. All of us are nearing senior discount ages.
