I could see the South Fowl Lake Dam to Fort Charlotte and 8.5 mile Portage to Grand Portage being the most difficult part of the trip. At one time NWC even tried using oxen w/ wagons on the Portage. A fellow on my fathers side Baptiste Bisson was an employee of the American Fur Trader/ Map Maker Peter Pond who found Methye Portage an even longer one at 12 miles. After PP BB later worked for Sir Alexander Mackenzie on the trip to Bella Coola, BC... Alex Canada by land 1793.
I'm pretty sure that you are allowed to use the American or Canadian side when it comes to the portages in BWCA or the Q?
