Just curious, I almost bought a new canoe, but I really don’t need one. Was so tempted though. I guess I’ll let the question stand.

4 tandem and 4 solo. 3 of each are usable currently.
I have a lot of friends that like to paddle, but don't own boats. now and then 4 or 5 of them will get out at once.

3 canoes, all tandem, 2 kayaks, and a 16 ft fishing boat.
First canoe I ever owned is a 15 ft aluminum of unknown make (recent post in this forum looking for info) that was free and weighs 100 lbs. I keep it because it was free, it can sit outside, and occasionally I need a boat that I don't mind bouncing off of rocks.
Second canoe is an Alumacraft QT17 I purchased for my first BWCA trip. I needed something cheap and lighter than canoe #1. Also is my current go-to canoe camping boat for non-BWCA trips - light enough, tough enough, and holds lots of gear. Also lives outside with canoe #1
Third and most recent canoe is a Souris River 16ft in their kevlar/fiberglass combo. It was $500 on Marketplace, and after a sanding and refinish is my current BWCA boat.
The kayaks are sit-on Pelican Black Friday specials, basically just toys, good for a short paddle or the occasional fishing adventure.
My fishing boat is a 1981 Lund 16ft with a 35hp tiller and all the usual accessories. I've owned it for 25 years and will probably never sell it.
A bonus piece of equipment I own is a canoe trailer. After buying canoe #2 I needed a way to haul them, so ended up modifying a boat trailer into a 17ft flat bed with custom canoe trees, able to haul up to 6 boats in its current configuration.

Just a Wenonah Solo Plus. I’ve had a few canoes and kayaks but I tend to just have one at a time. I sold my Prism to buy the Solo Plus, I wanted the versatility.

5 plus a Lund fishing boat. Our 1st canoe, bought with the 1st paycheck, is an alumnacraft. Took it on our honeymoon to Crab lake EP4, it is now 40 years old. Our 2nd canoe is a Bell. Our 3rd is a Wenonah, definitely the lightest of the 3. We bought our son the 4th, a solo Prism, and bought our daughter a Perception kayak- both live in our garage ( the boats, not kids). It’s nice having a choice of boats depending on activity and who’s paddling.

I'm proud to have 8ish canoes right now. I've paddled 4 of them this year and will paddle #5 this Saturday on the Namekagon. 3 of them are aluminum and have been strategically semi-abandoned on friendly private land in 3 different states, hence the ish. Two of these I've paddled this year... and the other one I haven't seen in a decade. Then I have 2 kevlar tandems and one kevlar solo that get the bulk of the BWCA work, a royalex MR Explorer tandem for the rivers around here in Wisconsin and then a cedar strip Kootenay (solo) that really shines on big water like Rainy or Superior. I've only taken the stripper on 3 trips but it is quickly becoming my favorite. I've bought them all used for 50-1200. I also have an old Crestliner motorboat that I camp and fish with around here with in May.

I know what you're all thinking, I do still need a proper solo for moving water.

I currently just have one canoe, a solo Souris River Tranquility. Used to have a 17' aluminum beast as well but I sold that to my brother since I never used it. I also have a kayak I use mostly for duck hunting or other activities that might result in it getting beaten up.

I almost bought a North Wind Solo this spring. A local dealer had a going-out-of-business sale and had a brand new NW Solo for $1500. While I debated for a day, trying to decide if it was worth getting a second solo just to shed a few pounds of base weight and get a newer boat, someone else bought it. Still regretting that. I should have snapped it up immediately. I'll probably never have another chance to buy a brand new canoe for less than 1/2 of the MSRP.

Three canoes for me.

My tripping canoe is a Mad River Lamoille 184 in kevlar. It's a 2002 model that I bought on closeout at Rutabaga in 2003. It's been a fantastic canoe.

I have a Wenonah Prism solo canoe that I haven't used as much as I thought I would. It's been to Quetico a few times, but others have borrowed it for those trips. In fact, my buddy who borrowed it liked it so much that he bought one of his own.

I also have an Old Town Penobscot 16. Always wanted a Royalex canoe for rivers and just paddling around the area. Had an olive green model first, then managed to find a red one for sale here on the board. It's WAY faster. :)

And for good measure, my wife and I own a Chapparal 200 SSI bowrider runabout with an 8-cylinder I/O. We really enjoy that on beautiful days, too. This one "paddles" REALLY nice. :)

Kayak is a Chesapeake Light Craft that I built years ago. It has been to the BW twice, sadly now it just hangs from the ceiling in the garage.

I use my Magic almost exclusively now even on group trips.

I have seven. Two tandems and five solos. I've had each on the water at least once this year with two 1-week trips planned for September and October. I really like them all and would have a hard time choosing which one to let go. Which is good because I can't buy another one without letting one go.

I bought another canoe this year, but it was essential. I could not kneel this Spring and my only sit-down canoe is an Advantage which is a poor choice for high rivers in the Spring, so I was forced. ;)

Now I have six solos and one tandem (that solos nicely).

If I were you I'd just give in to temptation.

Was so tempted to get a Basswood solo after Lorax review, oh man that is a beauty. Fact is I have my trusty Prism I've had for 30 years and she has never let me down, I also have the Spirit II shark which doesn't get wet much, can't find a reliable bow paddler dang. I don't want 3 boats, plus I think my Prism would be so pissed at me if I bumped her out.

That's a sharp looking canoe. I can see why it was so essential. The Cirrus is one of the canoes that could get me to think about selling one of mine.

I have a Northstar Northwind and a Souris River.
My youngest son has a Wenonah.
Oldest son has two Old Town barges.
We take the three Kevlars to the BW and leave the barges home.

Five because you need to be ready. A Prism from '92, an Encounter solo because it will haul a big load in rough water, A Champlain 18 for the same reason. My latest is a Northstar ADK 12 footer at 20 pounds for my old age. It also fits inside an Otter float plane so we can take in three canoes on one flight. Even if we do not need 3 canoes I save $400 in tie-on fees each round trip. If we need 4 canoes on the plane I take my Pac Boat 165 rolled up in its duffle inside the plane.

A few years ago.I inherited an Mad River Indy Kevlar and a Penobscot 15 (rare) that I sold because who needs seven canoes.

Aside from this year, all get some regular use except for the Blackhawk, which I should really replace (but it’s hard…).

The two SUPs are out of production Surftechs, no longer really getting used since our proximity to preferred waterways have changed, likely will replace them with inflatables to go in the camper van.

I have space to to fit 5 more canoes, but for some reason my CFO says it’s impossible and I’m not allowed to try.

Two, a Wenonah Encounter solo and a MN-3, both bought used. The Encounter was the best available at the price point when I was looking, and I appreciate how it can carry about six tons of gear, but I wouldn't mind a slightly smaller solo, and within the next year or two we'll start looking at a used tandem.

Usually paddling the Old Town or the BW solo. Old town is royalex so it gets used in shallow rocky rivers like the Susquehanna here in PA. And the Basswood for anywhere i need to carry it.

I am so close to giving into temptation and going for a used Basswood solo I located for a really good price. Looks like the perfect boat for what I do anymore. The 34# is a big draw. Might go for it.

The answer to your "real" question: Yes, you should definite buy a new canoe. While you think you "really don't need one", you really do. Paddling a new canoe will not only exercise your body, it will exercise your mind. New experiences are proven to delay cognitive decline as we age. You owe it to those closest to you to takes those steps now so they won't be spoon feeding you later.

A novel canoe will undoubtedly inspire you to plan novel trips and adventures which will enrich your life experience. Richer life experience makes you a more interesting person at parties. Do be that boring person at parties, buy another canoe.

Finally, I have heard one of the biggest risk factors for kids getting into drugs is having too much money. Protect yourself from the lure of Heroin and Pot; spend those drug dollars on a new canoe.

I comically just had this conversation with my sister after sending pictures from my last trip. To which I replied, my canoe "problem" is cheaper than a drug problem.

That being said, I recently sold a couple canoes due to space and ONLY have three currently.

The solos get paddled, the tandem got out this year but had hung for like 6 years. Kayaks pretty regular. Paddle boards have been packed for a few years. Really think of parting with the Magic and Wee Lassie.

3 kayaks (2 Folbot tandem folding sea kayaks and 1 solo sit-on) and 1 tandem canoe. Plus whatever we rent from the outfitter when we go north.

I'm gonna. If the dude would call me back I will give him some dough and get this deal done. Plan is to pick it up in Ely on the 15/16th and head to a campsite on the Willow Flowage Wi where I have an awesome campsite reserved Wed- Sun 16-20th. Was thinking of picking it up on the 15th, do a BW day trip, maybe Island River, then sleep in the bed of my pickup, then head to the Willow 1st thing on the 16th. That would be epic, but maybe a tad overkill. Might just grab early as I can on the 16th and head south. See how it goes. Like the boat from all I have seen, want to get it in my hands. Thx!

I can also confirm the basswood solo is an amazing boat. I've paddled it myself several times and still often think about getting one.

Personally I have 3 boats:
- Bell Morningstar (for soloing)
- Mohawk Prospector 15 (tandem or river/creeks)
- Kayak (tied up at neighborhood lake for easy fishing)

Been thinking of getting a small motorized fishing boat, but don't have the space.

Just bought one used for a really good price from Canadian Waters in Ely. I had to hound the guy haha, not the best communicator. Stoked!
