Having been to Beaverhouse in mid July of this year, it seemed likely the creek would become impassable before the end of the season, thus making the length significantly longer. I’m going back to that area in a couple weeks with my wife who is an amateur camper. For those who have been there recently, should we expect a long first portage or the typical well worn hop? Thanks, I’d much rather prepare her with what to expect than surprise her with something that she wasn’t anticipating.

Yep. Little water in the creek. You're going all the way to the lake.

We're on Batchewaung right now. The portages to Oriana and Jesse were pretty interesting too. The creek between Quetico and Oriana requires some wet-footing. Same for the creek from Oriana to the start of the portage to the pond before Jesse. One pullover a small dam in the creek before Jesse.

Water temps are very warm. Swimming is great and so is the fishing.

The stampede at the beginning of the reopening seems to have subsided - at least at this end of the park.

Bugs are almost non-existent.

I've put in at BH quite a few times, I never seen where one would continue past the area where the rangers keep their boats. Does the trail continue past that spot?

The entrance to Beaverhouse from the creek was not navigable on the 21st. Lots of rain expected overnight on the 31st may change that but I doubt it. We had to continue another 400m or so down the trail that ends where the creek meets the lake. Second time this has occured in the last five years for us. The first time was a late July start. The second was a late August start. Trips earlier in the season may be different.

Thanks for the great info gang. Argo, did the portage end at the ankle eating rocks? In the fall of ‘23(?), another low water fall, there was a shorter route to the sandy delta at the end of the creek. I’m hoping it has been cleared by the time I arrive. That slope was a bit nasty as I recall.

I'm not sure to what you're referring. But the put in was fairly straightforward. Are you bringing Maizy, Jack?

You bet! Just a short trip but she would be upset if she stayed at home, especially after watching me pack, and repack! Packing has been a bit more complex as I accommodate my wife’s desires. Two cots are in the mix! I never expected to be bringing cots into the wilderness!

There is no creek to canoe. The portage goes from the parking area right to Beaverhouse. The water in the swamp that the trail traverses can be high or low depending on beaver activity. It is usually good but I have seen the water knee high before.

Hearing that the creek out to BH is so low and un-paddleable is amazing to me. Been putting in there for 30+ years and it's always been deep enough. Having to portage the extra distance out to BH was never even a thought.

Last September I put in at BH and was just barely able to float the creek in my solo, but I passed folks coming in to takeout that were grounding out in the mud and one paddler had to get out and wade their canoe to the landing through knee deep mud.

There is another landing down the bank to the southeast of the end of the portage. First nation will have boats down there at times. The trail can be overgrown.

There are always first nation boats where we put in, this sounds like where we always put in, perhaps everyone else has been putting in somewhere other than we always have, lol?

We usually walk to the end of the trail and then down a bank with timbers for steps.

Perhaps you are referring to much further down in the open lake area, these boats?

I'm not sure why this post has garnered so much discussion. You portage to the creek. If not navigable you continue another 500m to the second option at the lake on the obvious path as your pictures illustrate.
