Headed towards bwca tomorrow. Lizz entry on Sunday for a couple of nights on horseshoe with vista as a fallback if horseshoe is full. Then headed over to Ely for the rest of the week. Planning on a day trip or two and could always fish below the dams.

I would bias towards targeting walleye but could be convinced to target stream trout if that is the play. I am generally a tgo method practitioner and could troll a Lindy type rig on day trips.

I am the only one in the group with anything resembling a passion for fishing

Arrowheads fishing report didn’t scream out to me that I must bring gear. What are everyone’s thoughts? Is it worth the space in the car?

Thanks in advance, Big D.

I would bring fishing gear. We camped on Horseshoe (site #676) 10 years ago and caught eatable walleyes on Horseshoe and big smallies on Vista. Fishing leeches on lindy rigs and hook, split shot and bobber setups. You might see moose back there.

Fishing is the reason we go!

Make sure you have slip bobber rigs and some nightcrawlers. (Be sure to keep them reasonably cool.)

Otherwise, jig heads and twister tails if you don't want to bring live bait. And some good crankbaits, like a shad rap, floating Rapala or similar.

You don't need a ton of fishing tackle in order to be flexible when hunting for Mr. Walleye. Maybe if you supply a great shore lunch for everyone, they will be very happy. :)

Hey Big D.

I'll be entering Morgan this Sunday. Planning on staying on Horseshoe with Vista as a fallback, maybe Gaskin.

Look for a guy paddling a magic. Goal for this trip is to photo some Moose. Hopefully a big bull. And of course fish.

I use Thill Slip Bobber's when fishing Stocked Lakes for Brook, Brown, Rainbow & Splake Trout. The Zebco Adventure RT Telescopic spinning rod fits in the pack the reels are cheap so I replace with a better one it's a good rig to take on the path I pre rig sticking the hook in the foam handle ready to go. If the lake doesn't have a good spot to shore fish from and it's impossible to bring a canoe I use a inflatable boat in a 5 gallon pail, oars with a bellows style air pump in a Forest Fire Fighter's Hose Pack so that I can troll with a Lucky Strike Speck Spinner.
Big D should be able to get a list of the Stocked Lakes from the DNR with the species, size, year and numbers stocked..

Always bring fishing stuff! You will be a hero when everyone else is eating the fish you catch.

Just tried this coating mix and liked the crunch factor.. Flour dip, Egg dip and Fried Pork Rind dip (use a rolling pin or coffee grinder to reduce the pork rind to a coating size). fry in fry pan w/evo and butter.

Over the years and many dozens of trips.

My cousin and I both in our 70s. Have decided there are two types of trips, fishing trips and traveling trips. We don't try to do both in the same trip anymore.

If you want to fish, take a fishing trip. If you want to travel and see things, do that. Trying to do both mess each type of trip up.

Did we cross paths and not realize it. I chatted with a fella paddling solo, asked if he saw any moose. We were at campsite 675.

Hey. Yes that was me. Hope you had a good trip!!

Good to chat with you! Got back last night, never saw a moose, or deer, or bear, or any sign of them. Weather Tuesday and Wednesday was not that great. Low clouds and rain/mist all day Tuesday then high winds with a few rain squals on Wednesday.
