I am heading into the BWCA for my 4th solo trip in a couple of weeks. On this trip I will be venturing into parts of the BWCA I have never been to before. I will be entering via Missing Link and heading South towards Cherokee Lake or even further (weather and conditions dependent....Temperance/Brule). For anyone that has been along this route can you give me any pointers, tips, must see, intangibles that I might need to consider along the way. I really enjoy falls, cliffs or lookouts along my solo routes.

This is my 14th total trip into the BWCA so I know the ropes of what it's all about, I am just looking for something that is unique perhaps to this route.

Hopefully this link will work
Three headwaters tour

I took ten days, but you could do it in half that time.

It is a wonderful route. Two years before this trip I did an out and back to Cherokee from Round and enjoyed it equally. Based on Cherokee for a few nights with lots to explore. Spent some extra time on Long Island as well. An exit through Ham to the Cross River Access is a pleasant alternative with a short walk to your vehicle.

It's a solidly scenic, nice area, enjoy!

For cliffs, if you end up having time, you could take the route between Cherokee and Brule that goes through Cam and Gasket. It's worth paddling around Cam Lake rather than just paddling through. And the cliffs over the Brule-Wench portage are pretty spectacular. The portages on that route are rocky so plan on slowing down a bit.

The closest thing to falls I can think of is the drop from Brule into South Temperance.

Day trip options from Long Island Lk would include heading over to Muskeg and Kiskadinna Lakes to see those fairly epic portages, or Frost Lk (beaches) and maybe explore the Frost River a little.

From Cherokee Lk you could paddle up Cherokee Creek and back, even if not continuing on to the south.
