It is time to start the May 2009 Photo Contest.

The theme for this month's contest is "Bogs".

Monthly Category: Pictures of BWCA and Quetico Bogs

This is a contest to see cool photos of Bogs of the Boundary Waters and Quetico region and optionally pictures of bogwalker in his element.;)

There is again a special reward for this months contests. Along with winning a hat, Wilderness Passages Magazine, created by long time member QPassage, is giving a free copy of their great magazine and a 2 1/2 hour DVD of Quetico footage to the winner of the photo contest and trip report contest. Remember 1 entry per person please. This helps us vote accurately.

Rules:
- You must be signed in as a member with a valid email address in your profile to enter (or win).

- You can only enter one photo per monthly contest. You can enter the same photo if it did not win in a previous month.

- You must be the photographer of the photo.

- Photos are entered in the contest by making a reply posting to this message and using the "Add a photo to this message" link during composition. This will allow you to upload a photo from your computer to the contest or allow you to select a photo which you have already loaded into your photo gallery on this site. If you want to enter your photo in another way, please contact us.

- Please describe in the message where the picture is from.

- Judging will be done by the www.bwca.com staff and moderators.

- A member may win once per year.

- Photos must be posted to this message by 11:59pm on May 31st.

- Photos must be in jpg or gif format to be uploaded to the site.

Contact me if you have something in a different format or are having problems uploading to the site.

Geez, Bannock. The campfire spark in that second shot is heading right for Bog's eye. I sure hope it missed.

This is a little stretch of water by Chippewa lake. it was very boggy, the bog was covered with blooming Pitcher plants and Sundews.

Ho Ho - That overlook on the Yum Yum Portage is simply breath taking. Nice shot.

This is the portage from hell! The entire portage from start to finish is actually one big bog. From Point lake to Isabella lake in the Quetico.

the Sultry to Silence bog portage,Quetico,spring 2006.
when i made this carry solo in 2005 the bog was to wet to cross and i had to make the rock walk on the West side.

Coming in on the Stuart River. Beaver dam washed away and we were left with a "bog" to cross. You can tell my wife is happy by her body language.

ekffazr, your pics bring back some fond memories. our group was trying to avoid another portage from Agnesb to Oyster and found out exactly what your pictures explain. we did it memorial weekend and it wasn't much more of a channel than what your group encoutered. thanks for the pictures. sure brings back good memories.

Hilarious! I know the water was way low in 2007; we did a Sag-South Knife-Seagull loop in August that year, and the water levels were way down. Did that portage last summer, and even when they are up, those two landings can be really muddy.

I think Shell Lake has reclaimed those logs since then.
