Next summer I will be taking my 6 year old grandson on his first Boundary Water trip. He loves to fish but a big mean Northern might a bit much. What would be a good lake for crappie, blue gills and smallies? I was thinking about heading up Moose Lake to Ensign. Any suggestions for lakes in that area?

on ur route u will pass through splash lake. it only has one site, that was pretty nice when i was there, and its out of the way that everyone travels to get to ensign. there are tons of smallies in there that will readily hit topwater no matter the presentation. i havent been there in about 4 or 5 years, but back then in august, they were hitting everything i threw to em. its a fairly clear lake, and will present u with a good opportunity to sight fish. there were some monsters in there that wouldnt hit anything i offered. hopefully u can hook up with one of em.
