Who brings protein bars and which ones are your favorite? Last year we brought slim fast high protein bars (15 grams per bar). They were pretty good - more like a high protein granola bar than the chocolate type ones I've looked at. Haven't tried any yet - would like suggestions on favorites. They're such an easy breakfast on the go when you want to get on the water early.

We have discount grocery store by the name of Aldi. They sell a protein bar that is very good for $.95 a piece. Typically there are 3 flavors each is pretty good but my favorite is the chocolate peanut butter. Each bar has 200 calories, 8 g fat, 135 mg sodium, 15 g protein, 11 g sugar, 0 g trans fat. Goes under the name "fit & active". By far the cheapest bar with the most protein I have found, but am interested what else people come up with.

I bring Clif Bars and like them but my wife thinks they are too dry and brings Zone Bars. I was worried about the Zone Bars melting because they have a chocolate coating but they were fine making sure they didn't sit out in the sun. The Clif Bars are spendy most places but not too bad at a Super Target. A little over a dollar as singles and a box of 6 is 5 something. 260 calories,6g fat, 0g trans fat, 200mg sodium, 42g carbs, and 11g protein. They have a lot of flavors but the only ones I like are chocolate chip, peanut butter, and chocolate chip peanut crunch. The Zone Bars cost a little more w/ a box of 5 for $6 I think. 190 calories, 6g fat, 0g trans fat, 210mg sodium, 22g carbs, 12g protein.
The Clif Bars stick with me pretty good for just being a bar. During baseball season I go straight from teaching to coaching so most nights I don't get home until 8 or 9 and eating a Clif Bar right after school holds me over through baseball no problem.

Cliff bars are real good. My favorite for taste are Atkins bars. Choolate caramel and Peanut butter and chocolate are my faves. I usually have a cliff bar w/breakfast and Atkins bar with lunch.

I eat zone bars all the time at home.
They seem like a perfect snack for the BW.
I used to really like the apple bars but could not find them at the stores. The apple bars were nice because they would not melt and were actually a bit better if they were warm.
I just found an online source and ordered them:
zone bars on sale
They seem pretty cheap with cheap shipping. We'll see...

Protein bars I use Big 100 Colossal's or powdered whey protein with water and a shaker bottle. For energy bars I like either classic powerbars or Clif's. Morning I usually crunch a few Kellog's Special K bars to get my sugar levels up "responsibly."

the black cherry is my favorite..the heavy chew factor is said to be good in that it provides some sort of eating satisfaction while a drink with the same go power is just a drink and not a meal.the bars are one of those thing i'm cutting back on this year.i came back with four of them.i took ten for a two week trip.
it's just a level trail thru the woods.

Wouldn't have thought of the jerky in place - that sounds better - I much prefer jerky over the protein bars. Thanks for the idea Koda.

I'm not a big fan of the regular Clif bars, but they make a product for kids, the Z-Bar that I absolutely love. Their chewier than the regular Clif bar and a lot sweeter. Five or six different flavors. Like most Clif products, they're kind of pricey, but SuperTarget sells them for $3.49 per box of six, the best price I've seen anywhere.

If it's going to be a meal, I like the Pro Bars - they have almost twice as many calories. And they're good - I like Koka Moka and Berry Blast best. Clif bars are good. I eat a lot of Zone Bars at home - they seem to satisfy me pretty good.

I just bought a box of Clif Bars at Sam's Club, they're called Mojo bars, and the box came with 3 different varieties, can't remember them all but the one I had for breakfast this morning was a Peanut Butter Pretzel, all 3 are very good and they came in at less than $1 each. I also like the black cherry almond Clif bars (and all the other flavors, for that matter)

This thread looks to be mostly about store-bought energy bars, but Hudson Bay Bread provides the same type of thing, and you can make it at home. There's a thread about it here in the Camping Recipes section.
My wife is a workout fanatic and enjoys Cliff Bars as much as the next person, but she really enjoys HBB when I make it.

My go to meal replacement bar for the past 10 years had been a Cliff Bar, the only bar that will put a dent in my appetite. However, I recently discovered Bear Valley's MealPack Bars, and I'm hooked. If anyone wants a bar that makes you feel like you ate something (400+ calories per bar), I'd highly recommend them. Pretty dense texture, but great flavors (I recommend the Sesame Lemmon).
