For us down by Chicago, this is closer to us than BWCA. doesn't look as fun as BWCA but the scenery is beautiful. I would be interested to hear from those of you who have been there before.

Ok pics of the park look beautiful, but where is it in Ontario? I couldn't easily find a map showing big picture. Obviously, I've not paddled there, but always looking for more places to explore by water.

OK, I guess that might be closer to you. Why doesn't it look as fun to you? I didn't get many details out of the parks info...

I've been to Bruce Peninsula National Park a couple times - due south of Killarney across the Georgian Bay and I think it's one of the most beautiful places on earth...

I just did a day trip to Killarney and I agree that the scenery is absolutely stunning. We hiked up to "The Crack" for a view of the La Cloche Range, Killarney and O.S.A. Lakes, and Georgian Bay way off in the distance.

Here are my impressions of the park:

- The lakes we saw were gorgeous. As in, drop dead beautiful. Generally I’m not a base camp person, but I would in Killarney to give myself plenty of time to explore the cliffs and woods around each lake
- To make a big loop like I’m used to doing would involve several 1 to 2 mile portages… I like a good portage as much as the next person, but, yeah, a basecamp type trip sounds even better considering the portages
- Trailheads are not well marked and the map they had on display didn’t help much. The park office was closed and we had to ask someone in the George Lake campground for directions to the trail. Markings were great once on the trail tho. We passed several of the backcountry hiking campsites and all looked very nice (access to the water would be a huge issue at a few of them we saw (think 50 foot cliffs))
- Killarney is about 10 times smaller than the BW so if you’re looking to cover lots of water, it might be a bit cramped. If you’re looking for dramatic scenery tho, Killarney is definitely the place to be.

Anyone been here recently? Looks like a cool place to explore.

This place was just added to my bucket list. A canoe/backpack combo looks like the ticket.

I did a week long trip years ago maybe 1993. You can canoe and hike on your canoe trip..

Its quite rugged country. Make reservations early..five months to the day before your trip. Killarney books fast.

map of Killarney canoe routes and portages.

Its about an hour to ninety minutes south and west of Sudbury.

you can leave your fishing rod at home. many of these lakes are dead due to acidification resulting from nearby copper/nickle operations.

How does that effect drinking the water?

There has been a great recovery. Sudbury no longer looks like the moon. I am sure the fishing is not great but there is recovery from acidification from long past mining practices that had horrible effects. recovering

Acid water is fine to drink. Our Connecticut home had well water with a pH of 5.5. Neutral is 7.
