This was a very interesting report. You had a lot of great experiences for a first trip--I envy you all of the good wildlife sightings. An otter is a real plus for me! Great buck photo, too.

I think the bird you are wondering about is the white-throated sparrow. Its song just means northern Minnesota to me. :-)

Thanks for a great first report. I enjoyed reading it.

Thanks for the report. It was great!

I agree with Spartan2. Sounds like a white throated sparrow.

Always interesting to take a renewed "Look" through the eyes of a first-timer! Great report. I too believe the birds you are referring to were White throated sparrows? We always described their song as "Sweet, sweet, ca-na-da, ca-na-da, ca-na-da, ca-na-da." TW

I dont think I have ever read a report so full of animals. Wonderful imagery and great writing.

One of my favorite passages:
"The whole placed buzzed with life. Thousands of hornets, bees, wasps, grasshoppers, birds, dragonflies, caterpillars, and whoknowswhats filled the air. There was an abundance of flowers of all kinds. I was taken away by all the activity. I fell in love at that moment."

whoknowswhats-- what fantastic word! So apt when you feel in awe/at one with a place.

Thanks for a wonderful tr.

GREAT trip report. I really enjoyed the writing. I had vizualized the happenings with your writing. The pics were great, and the memories are now burned into your mind of the magical place known as the boundary waters. many more great trips.

I loved your report. It's great when you can feel the wonder and amazement of someones experience. It took me back to that first trip of my own and remembering being in awe of the whole place too. Even Ely, as you say, can be a magical place to out of staters like us.

Also, I never read where you come from. And thanks for the pics.
