The week after Labor Day we are staying in the UP near Germfask. We plan on day trips to Pictured Rocks, Tahquamenon Falls, and a canoe trip on the Manistique River thru the Seney Preserve. We still have a spare day we could paddle, does anyone have any suggestions on a good daytrip in that area? I do have the updated MI paddling guide.

hummm?

Well, it's not paddling, but Kitch-iti-kipi is an interesting stop. It's not far from Manistique. It does involve watercraft: there is a self-propelled raft that takes you out over the pond and back.

I've been to nojobro's recommendation before - I wonder if you can paddle your own craft on that spring-fed lake. It's a very cool ride across and back on the raft. The bugs can be ferocious (think last week in July). But there are trout in there to watch (not sure about fishing regs) and I'd love to paddle the lake in other areas besides what you can see from the raft... I'd call and ask, but in any case, it's worth a visit!

I have not been there, but am pretty sure there is no fishing.

I've paddled the Fox and Manistique from Seney down to Germfask. We did it in 2 days with a couple inexperienced paddlers along. Also there's the Big Island Lake Wilderness. Its about 40 miles from there. I haven't paddled it but learned about it from this forum. Search this forum for it.

You don't need to search for Big Island Lake Wilderness. Its only about four entries down from this thread!
