I have often thought of hunting up there. My brother worked at an outfitter at the end of the gunflint. He said that when the ones that had been there a while saw a deer they were impressed. Does that mean: 1)scarce populations. 2) wary deer. Either way, a challenge. Aug 7-11 I was up near snowbank lake and we went into the Mugwump PMA to Raven Lake. During that trip I was thinking how awesome it would be to hunt up here, but also actually thinking how on earth could you hunt up here. Would you hunt for antlers, knowing the possibility of some old growth? One could not ignore the satisfaction of harvesting a doe due to the extent of effort in such a pursuit. I'll leave it at that for my first post.

So scouting would know doubt help. But where would start to scout? I was thinking a river system... You could paddle quit a bit and investigate any sign of game coming to drink or cross at the waters edge. Then you could hunt that area with minimal disturbance by paddling up to shore and hunting in a bit, possibly at the first trail crossing/intersection.

I just got back from the BWCA where we were bear hunting. so far no bear. However the number of deer that I could have arrowed was unreal. even more were the number of deer i could easily have reached with my rifle.
As for scouting, I would start looking near the blow down area, and places where fires have been in the last 2-3 years. Deer love the young grasses that sprout up right away. The river idea is a good one also, we were on a river system and that had plenty of deer.
