I just finsihed reading an advance copy of "Hunters & Hearts" by James and John Iverson (Wild Wolf Publishing). They are the grandsons of Emil Inverson who was credited with a journey into the Kawa Bay - east Quetico - in 1927, with the purpose of finding the remains of a Ojibwa tribe village. Emil had developed a strong relationship with a shaman from the tribe by the name of 'Two Rivers'. I had been in contact with the grandsons because I was looking for a trip report or more detail about the 1927 journey.

The book, Hunters&Hearts, only touches on the actual relationship between Emil and Two Rivers, in the final chapters. The majority of the book focuses on the Ojibwa and stories tracing back as much as two centuries before the present. It is a good read from the perspective of understanding more about the Ojibwa and the way things were in the Quetico area at that time. The story is also inter-mixed with thoughts about how the 'spirit' world (animals, birds, trees, etc) are part of the daily life of the Ojibwa.

It's a good book for that time of year when we put the canoes away and dream about the next adventure. One note I would add is that there are a few places where misspelled words and/or incomplete sentences may slow you down. (Maybe they will clean that up before the September release.)
