How do you pick one photo for this?
Of all the beautiful sunsets/sunrises, shots of people having fun, campfires, fishing, whatever, that I have I went with this one. This was on Kelly Lake in mid-June this year. On our first full day we take off from camp into the mist and the "unknown" of what lies ahead of us. This strikes me as what I really seek out of the BWCA - a group of friends that band together for a week and push on into what waits ahead for better or worse.
I can't wait to see what people choose to display this month!

Nice one Kanoes.
I'll use this one of a mouse. It's amazing to me that I even captured it because this mouse was in constant motion. He climbed up the tripod while I followed him in the viewfinder and stopped for just an instant to look at me and then was gone. This was on Moosecamp Lake in Sept. of 2007.

Ted Lake, Quetico, sunrise, 5/29/03, looking north from the southern point campsite.
This is a panorama stitched together from two color transparencies. I've always liked the color original but just for fun converted it to black&white using Photoshop's "Adjustment>B&W" with the red filter option (The Ansel Adams option I call it).

Well, for us this photo is the best of the best as it reflects my brother and I with our teenage sons. It has been at least nine years since we all had been on vacation together. The boys are off to college now and we may never get another chance to be together like this.

Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

This one was shot by my buddy Brian this last August. We had Wine Lake all too ourselves and we camped on the island campsite. That night we watched the Perseid Meteor shower that night.

The toad was practicing passive resistance. He seemed convinced that if he puffed up enough he'd be too big for the snake to swallow.

I love that campsite. The small island just right of 12 o'clock we named shiet island because of all the seagull crap all over it. I'm guessing it's a popular fishguts island. I forget what we named the island on the right side of the photo but I'm sure it wasn't proper either.

"Best of the best" is such a hard decision. But I do love the small treasures of the canoe country, and I think this particular emergent dragonfly is one of my favorite photos. As it came out of its exuvia (skin) it fluttered up into this pine tree and stayed for a few minutes to dry out before flying away.

Too late for the contest I'm sure, but finally got my photos loaded. This one is my favorite. We had 4 straight days of major wind and mostly rain and then one night is just stopped and we got this sunset. The feeling that I get when looking at the photo are surely not the same as someone just viewing it as another photo, but for me it was almost a moment of clarity. Wish I would have had a better camera... ah next year.
