What do you suggest? With paddling season around the corner (I hope), I've been in search for some paddling hats. Kids ages 6-12.

I've gotten all our ours from campmor like these. I always make sure they have chin straps

Gander Mountain, under $5 end of season sale. When wet, they make great frisbees, but hard to dry if it's cold and not sunny. We may be outgrowing some - if we need to pass them on, is that the kind you could use (free)?

BW- You're so kind. If you do find they no longer fit, I'd be interested. My kids are 6,9,12..two have big heads. Maybe one or two might work?

I have no idea where I got it, but Canyon has a bucket hat with a built in bug net that stores in the crown of the hat. It works slick and he cannot lose his but net.

And LOL at your typo in the last sentence. Yes, I am a 10 year old boy sometimes. ;-)

B has a hat from Cabela's. So far L has used a toddler rainhat or a sunhat. Those are usually pretty easy to find for kids her age. B was a little tougher. She is almost 12 but adult hats don't quite fit her because she has a smaller head.

Here's what I found for bucket with bug protection.

Outdoor Research Not cheap, but packs down with built in pocket. Easy to tuck net up into hat. They also carry bucket style, bug repellent hats that don't have net. Wonder how well those work? Those are olso UPF 30. Gander Mtn currently has this on sale for $23.

Only a good investment if the hats don't get lost. To date, for bugs we carry the $3-4 green hats/nets. They fold flat and slip into outer pocket on pack. They were a life saver on one trip. But I like to encourage hats overall for sun protection of face and eyes... hence the brown ones with more substance. Cannot believe we haven't lost any of those yet.

Agree. They aren't cheap.

here's an option at sierra trading post for under $18. xs and s sizes available, but i didn't look to see what that means.
