great report Croixboy!! glad you had a good trip, despite the heat and rain. WOW that must have been some thunderstorm.

A year ago 4th of July 6 inches over night. Changed the level of the lake. Sounds like you had one hell of a trip. Glad your back safely. Tell me a bit more about the Yak paddle I'm planning to get one for my solo.

I would go for it. The longer paddle also helped with maneuvering around rocks and shoreline.

With minimal effort I could really cruise.

A little water runs down the paddle that is out of the water into the boat or onto your hands sometimes. Not a big deal for me.

I have a kayak at home and the longer paddle would be a benefit for a solo paddle.

Really enjoyed your trip report - including the photos - especially liked the "Day 2" picture of the clouds and blue sky and the picture of the loons. We've paddled this area many, many times and really enjoy it - but that portage between Lizz and Caribou can get really muddy when it rains. Here's hoping your next trip brings sunny skies and gentle breezes.

Thanks for the trip report. Nice pictures!

Curious but where is the water that you are stopping to get off Midway road?

@ sevenofnine and anyone else,

It's the public well for Eldes Corner , MN.

Google Map View

It's the northeast corner of the intersection of I35 and Midway Rd keeping in mind that I35 is going east-west at this point so it's confusing. So, coming from the south, exit at Midway, turn left on Midway Rd to go under the freeway and make your first right at the frontage road and its a few hundred feet up the road on the left.

I just fill up my water bottles on the way up and back but I have also filled up 7 gallon water containers for group camping trips and there was a guy filling up two 55 gallon barrels for his house when I was there this last time.

It's a tradition with our family to stop there. Often you meet somebody else doing the exact same thing when you are there and can have a nice conversation. And the water is SOOOOO good.
