Hi Tremolo!

Boys had a great time. We cut our 7 day trip by one day - Exhausted - but in a good way. We had planned on doing the entire loop (Buck Lake to Cummings - then back to EP4)but that 480r seemed too much of a push. That canoe was the heaviest 48 pounds I've ever carried. Both boys received deer fly bites on their legs (my 17 year old was bitten twice on the same portage (Lunetta to Schlamm). Those suckers are mean! There were actually small lacerations on his leg! No other injuries, though. Two mistakes made (by me): (1) Forgot to bring a fillet knife (had to use my multi-tool to clean fish). It worked, but much more cumbersome; and (2) Didn't bring a spare filter for the water filter canister. On Day 1 it took us 20 minutes to pump 8 oz. of water. Reverted to boiling water, but it take about one hour before it was semi-cool enough to drink. If the fuel canisters ran out, then we would be forced to boil water using a wood fire. We could always have dipped a bottle from the middle of the lake, but I'm hesitant about that. If someone got sick, it's a long way back to civilization. Fortunately, my eldest son read the instructions! A scrub pad was included. Just scrubbed the filter and "poof" - we were back in business! (Hey, real men don't read instructions until all else fails - Ha Ha). After scrubbing for 6 says, the filter finally shattered. Fortunately, we all had full bottles and only had to canoe from Little Crab to Crab and then portage the 360r to EP4. Overall, the trip was everything I had hoped it would be. Great memories! Hope all is well with you. Sounds like your solo trip was good.
