Did it ever occur to you that perhaps you are becoming the old guy?

Great report JB. Although it sounded like torture, your trip reinforces my idea that no matter how bad it is, I will never quit going. At age 59, I am getting to be an "old guy" myself.

Also, welcome to the site. I hope to hear about more BWCA hunting adventures.

I am both honored and insulted to be refereed to as an "old guy". I am glad we inspired you to take the trip. It sounds like you had a cool adventure also. Our trip was defiantly one that we knew we had to take before we were to old to do it. We also did both work hard at getting into shape before the trip. By the way, I did run my 8th marathon last spring and I know that Rob has done a couple marathons too and he certainly has that type of mentality.

Rob and my assessment after our trip was that we took to much gear and we needed to lighten up, but your gear weights put us to shame. We did not have near that much trouble going through Gotter, though I do remember it being a mud hole and we saw where others had waded through the muck. Sue and Andy at Tusc had warned us about it.

Also Rob and I went to high School together and we are both 44, I know to many of the members of this board, we are still young bucks, wet behind the ears. However I guess to others we are the old guys.

one last thought, at the risk of offending someone, I wish that a non-human mammal had met his or her demise on your trip.

Laughed my head off thinking of you in that muck... braver than I! Don't like the thought of no bottom...

Glad you made it out, love the idea of a BW hunt.

Ditto to Heavy Canoe.

Loved the report. Just let me say "as an old guy" that it was sincerely great to hear the "young guys" stepping up to help the poodle folks when it was clear you aready had enough on your hands taking care of your own gear.

Glad to hear you are already talking about going back...that took me about 6 months.

Note that HC is the real marathoner and still in that kind of shape. I may have a couple of them under my belt but you couldn't tell that looking at me now. I do, however, still have that mentality of being "too mean to quit".

Thanks for the story.
