It's a fine trip report and I enjoyed it. I'll check back later to see if you added some pictures.

Great!! I was on the other side of Ely from you during the same time... the wind that Friday and Saturday was amazing (Saturday especially for us) and didn't die down until midday Sunday.

Yes, going from 25 degrees at night to 80+ in the day was strange - in October!

You didn't say what equipment you brought that worked well or what you would have liked to have, but didn't, or what you brought and didn't need - got any comments on that area for other newbies?

Well done!! (trip AND report!)

wawasee~ Northerns ranged from hammer handles up to around that 7-8lb range. No big monsters but still a fun fight in a canoe.

bw~ yes, the wind was something else, as well as the weather!

As for gear...
I brought way too much fishing gear, mainly lures. I am glad that I brought an extra rod as one broke on me the first afternoon of fishing. Clothing wise I was pretty good as I had more in my pack the night before we left and took some items out which made a big difference in packing. I was able to borrow a sleeping pad, which was a Thermarest that was 3/4" thick. I didn't think it would be enough but it was great, so that is on my list for next year. Also, being able to see different packs that people had helped me get a feel for what I want to get. Would like to purchase a Kondos pack for the future as well.
We brought way too much food and I know I brought way too many snacks. I know that if I go with this group that I can get by with much less in the snack department as we pack in alot and eat well.
Another item I would like to get is a portable/hand water filter system. A few of the guys had these in the canoes and they worked great. We had a filter at camp too, which worked well but I can see the portable one being more handy for myself.
