Great report and wonderful pictures. Every time I read a report from the fall, makes me want to be there more so than any other time of year.

Nice trip report. We did that exact same loop in late September, really nice with few people around. And that family of beavers on Little Caribou were some of the most aggressive I've ever seen!

Very nice! Fall trips are the best & I really like that area as well.

Glad to hear Gadwall lake got cleaned up. Your photo of the tree stumps is essentially where it was. Since the initial contact I hadn't heard back from the Forest Service. (not that I really expected to) Kinda always wondered if anything got done about it? It really is a cool little lake. How'd ya like that portage?!? :)

Thanks for taking the time to share your story & photos as well as the feedback on Gadwall lake.

TB...i forget?...did you find the portage to Vale lake? We looked and didnt see it.
Also, I was suprised to climb the hill to Gadwall and find a sign on a tree...Trout Lake rules or something....whats the story there?

We never did go up to Vale but, we paddled right past the shoreline where we presumed the portage was.

Regarding the sign; we kinda wondered the same thing. Seems inconsistent with LNT? And if the forest service cleaned up the garbage back there they obviously also had to pass right by the trout lake sign so.........

Enjoyed your trip report and pictures, cowdoc. I went in #64 on 9/20 last fall - a last-minute switch due to the fire. I went into Alder, Pierz, Canoe, Crystal, and back out. Some pretty lakes.

Love the moon and pink puffy cloud shots. Amazing that you guys can drive 10 hours and THEN put in and paddle. I'm older than I thought, couldn't do that unless I was camping on the EP lake - even then I'd protest and want a night in the bunk house before starting out.

Very cool descriptions - sounds like you gathered enough "intel" to know the very best sites anywhere in that area! Good info.

Thanks!

Those quiet fall days are very peaceful. Bugs and humidity in October is odd alright. Thanks for sharing!
