This song describes my emotions when I am at my lowest during a solo trip.

Need I explain?

That's a good song. I try real hard to stay away from any deep emotional lows on a solo. I went through that on solo trips in my twenties. Now in my 50's, I can ward off that stuff a lot better.

The lonelinest, darkest song I know of is a song called "The Hole" by Townes Van Zandt. I'm pretty sure it's about drug addiction and alcoholism. Scary stuff. Townes was the best at this sort of thing.

The Hole

I hear you, bumabu, and I like that song, but like TomT, I don't get as low as I used to. I do solos mostly out of necessity, but I also like them. I can be pretty talkative after a week-long solo though :).

if you meet up with me on the last carrys out after a two week solo expect to hear the story of my life------
Solo Blues..there have been times when i ask myself why in blazes i'm i doing this, mostly on those gray wet days when you get "under the weather".a nice day after a good run past the pines and cliffs somewhere and i put my feet up in camp and know why.

I've only done one solo of 4 days - 3 nights. I was fairly exhilarated the entire time. I suppose I need to do more and longer solo trips to see if the blues set in.

The weather can play a big part I think. When it rains day after day on a solo it can be tough. This happened to me in 2007 and I was happy to come out. This year the weather was fantastic and I did not want to leave. No blues this year for me.

The worst blues I ever got on a solo was in 1988 in the Q when I totalled my brand new solo boat on the last day. Luckily I got towed out by a nice couple. The 11 hour ride home with my crumpled canoe on top of my car sucked pretty bad too.

Funny, I have the opposite reaction. Coming out of a two week solo is very difficult for me. I dislike the "re-entry" very much and try to avoid civilization at all costs.

WOW, I can't even imagine the ride home with myself after that.
